About Us

Valcor’s mission is simple: to help small and mid-sized businesses avoid bankruptcy and litigation through business debt mediation, restructuring, and capital acquisition services.

A Legacy of Saving Businesses

The Valcor story began toward the end of the 1980s with founder and CEO David Sussman, then a Ph.D. candidate in clinical psychology. While working in hospitals and therapeutic communities, David witnessed firsthand how financial pressures—budget cuts, mergers, and leveraged buyouts—were pushing healthcare organizations to the brink.

When a hospital CFO confided that bankruptcy seemed inevitable, David applied principles he learned from his late father, a British chartered accountant and Fellow of the Institute of Taxation. The result: a successful financial turnaround that saved the hospital.

That experience changed everything. Realizing he could make a greater impact by saving businesses instead of treating individuals affected by business failures, David shifted paths—leaving academia, earning his master’s in business, and founding Valcor, a firm dedicated to small business recovery.

Focused on Small Business Turnaround

While large consulting firms targeted big corporations, Valcor built its reputation by helping small and medium-sized businesses restructure debt, restore cash flow, and avoid closure. As demand grew, Valcor expanded its reach by training and certifying local consultants across North America.

In 1994, the company launched its first consultant training program, creating a network of professionals across the U.S., Canada, and the U.K.—all dedicated to helping entrepreneurs stabilize and rebuild their businesses.

Trusted Experience and National Recognition

For over three decades, Valcor has been recognized as a leader in small business restructuring and turnaround consulting. The company has been featured on major television networks, national radio, and in top-tier business publications for its work helping business owners recover from financial distress and achieve long-term growth.

From Main Street to Fortune 100

Valcor’s commitment to innovation led to the creation of DebtAuction, a pioneering online marketplace launched in 1998 that connected buyers and sellers of institutional non-performing debt portfolios. With advisors from Goldman Sachs and PricewaterhouseCoopers, and clients including Citibank, Bear Stearns, and Sprint, the platform grew to list over $1 billion in assets before being sold in 2000.

Today, Valcor’s consultants provide comprehensive debt mediation, business restructuring, and capital acquisition services to privately held companies across multiple industries.

Valcor continues its mission today:

To protect small business owners, restore financial stability, and build a foundation for lasting success—one business at a time.
